Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience and expertise in the construction industry, starting as an Apprentice Bricklayer, and progressing through various roles to become a seasoned Construction Director. My work history spans different countries, including the Middle East, where I had the opportunity to manage complex projects and contribute to the development of remarkable structures.
During my apprenticeship as a Bricklayer, I honed my skills and developed a strong foundation in the specialist trade. As a self-employed Bricklayer, I worked on diverse residential and commercial projects, further refining my craftsmanship and understanding of construction processes.
Transitioning into a General Building Contractor, I embraced the challenge of competing in a dynamic market. I successfully secured contracts for residential extensions, commercial buildings, and factory expansions, demonstrating my ability to deliver high-quality results while meeting client expectations.
My career then took an exciting turn when I ventured into the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia, I served as a Site Manager and Project Manager for prestigious projects. I oversaw the construction of residential housing estates, transforming remote desert structures into luxurious office buildings and medical facilities in city locations. Additionally, I managed major infrastructure projects, including chilled water, sweet water, raw water, electrical, data, and drainage systems in Dhahran town.
Continuing my journey in Qatar, I assumed the role of Contracts Manager, leading the construction of a groundbreaking high-rise commercial and residential building with a challenging two-story basement construction below the water table. I also played a vital role in constructing three significant military installations for the Qatari army, as well as a local authority administration building and luxury residences for prominent individuals in the Qatari government.
Returning to the UK, I held positions as Contracts Manager and Senior Contracts Manager, overseeing notable projects. Notably, I managed the construction of the second largest student residential village in Europe and successfully delivered several high-rise residential and commercial buildings. Additionally, I led the management of an intricate single-span spaceframe roof for a glass building.
My journey culminated in my role as Construction Director, where I led the modernization and upgrading of a long-established company. By spearheading the tender team, I significantly increased the company’s turnover and profitability. Furthermore, I directly engaged with clients and successfully delivered high-rise projects, including complex deep basement carparks, residential with commercial spaces, and hotels within major city centre structures.
Currently, I serve as a Project Manager for the Barnston Group, a medium-sized company focused on specialist residential projects. I specialize in projects involving deep basements and luxurious homes, leveraging my extensive experience to ensure successful project outcomes.
In terms of education, I hold an NVQ5 in Construction Project Management. I am also a Chartered Construction Manager (CCM) and a proud member and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB and FCIOB, respectively).
